Big Boy Room Projects

Now that Parker man is sleeping in a big boy bed (and staying put!) we moved him over to the bottom bunk of the clubhouse bunk bed and moved Luke up to the top bunk!

Let me back up a bit and swallow my pride. Somehow we mis-measured the top bunk when we were building the bed. We didn't know because we were only using the bottom bunk. So when the time came to talk about moving Parker to the bottom bunk and Luke up we tried to put the mattress on the top we found out we were WAY off! It turned out that we needed to add about 2-3 inches on each side for the mattress to just be able to fit! I wanted a few more inches to make sure I could change the sheets.

So back to the drawing board trying to figure out a solution. This is what hubby and I came up with.

We took both side pieces off and added an extra piece to get the length for a mattress right. Jonathan was a rockstar figuring out the right size pieces for this. Math just isn't my thing...they say opposites attract! And disaster averted!

Now I'm just looking forward to the day when Luke can change his own sheets!

Any who, back to decorating the room. I've added some bunting to the top bunk that I made for the boys Little Man Birthday Bash

I also wanted a way to display their prized drawings in their room. My main goal was cheap resourceful. I had my handy hubby cut some left over wood from the bunk bed into 14" x 14" squares. Then I painted them a deep chocolate added cork boards. I used decorative nails for the corners and had Luke pick out 4 wooden pieces at Hobby Lobby.

Total cost for this project was about $14.

I made a coat rack for their coats and bags and reused the "Rules of a Gentleman" sign from their Little Man Party.

I also bought this map for their room in a weak moment! :) But it was 50% off! I made the ledge shelves and added some accessories we had around the house.

Hubby and I made these rolling drawers for under the bed storage. With two boys in one room and that huge bunk bed there wasn't room for two dressers. Luke loves his "dresser" :)

And another one of my favorite storage solutions...the stairs! And the boys favorite part!

I really love how everything turned out. And the boys love sharing a room for the most part too!
